Adult Therapy

We will work together to figure out your goals in counseling at the pace that you need. In our sessions we detangle the ball of yarn to understand where your thoughts and feelings are coming from and create effective coping strategies such as mindfulness, self-compassion, or deep breathing, reframing unhelpful self-talk. How we talk to ourselves can have one of the biggest impact on our mental health. It’s important that you learn how to navigate through the unhelpful thoughts and feelings that impact your expectations, past experiences, continued stressors. I use a mixture of Cognitive-Behavioral Techniques (CBT), mindfulness training, self-compassion, and plenty of things to think about and work on in between our sessions.

Child Therapy (ages 8-12)

When I work with children, I use approaches that will fit best for their developmental level. Options could be using sand tray, activity therapy, or expressive arts. Children develop the skills they need to cope with feelings, build distress tolerance, learn social skills and empathy, and move toward growth while learning about themselves in these different types of therapies. Sand tray has an interactive component like Minecraft where they can create their internal world through the use of different types of characters, animals, themes, and figures to express their thoughts and feelings. Activity therapy and expressive arts involves direct approaches to teaching them how to identify their feelings or triggers, and learn coping skills to help them navigate through these difficulties.

Teen Therapy (ages 13-17)

For teens, I provide talk therapy combined with activity therapy or expressive arts. Teens usually stick to talking and combine some of the others here and there depending on what is most helpful. I use a mixture of strategies teaching Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques, Mindfulness, Self-Compassion, and Coping Skills. I also believe in the importance of including parents in the therapy process. See Parent Consultations section below for more information.

Parent or School Consultations

When working with your child or teen, I meet with parents regularly throughout our sessions. In our meetings, we will discuss your struggles and concerns as a parent. Topics discussed include mental health education, support, parenting strategies, and behavior plans. We will work together to find developmentally appropriate strategies to address difficulties within your family. I typically meet with parents every 4-6 session, which can sometimes vary (more or less frequently) depending on severity and needs with your child. If your child is having trouble in school or daycare, I can work their teachers or counselors to develop plans to help them have more success within the classrooms.
